Report
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors Consider adoption of an ordinance amending Section 12.24.020 of the Monterey County Code to establish a four-way stop intersection at Jolon Street and Main Street, a four-way stop intersection at Jolon Street and Center Street, and a three-way stop intersection at Jolon Street and College Street in the San Ardo area in the unincorporated area of the County of Monterey.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
On December 3, 2013 the Board introduced, waived the reading and set today's date and time to consider adoption of the ordinance amending Section 12.24.20 of the Monterey County Code.  The County has received requests from the public for three all-way stop intersections on Jolon Street at Main Street, Center Street, and College Street to protect the safety of children and other pedestrians crossing Jolon Street walking to and from a nearby recreational park and an elementary school.  Installation of stop signs will enhance the safety of pedestrians and the travelling public by controlling vehicular traffic around the park and school.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
The Office of the County Counsel has approved the ordinance as to form. The California Highway Patrol concurs with this recommendation.

FINANCING:
There is no financial impact to the General Fund.  Traffic control devices are paid from the Road Fund.  The cost to install the necessary signing is estimated at $800.00.  There are sufficient appropriations available in the Road Fund (Fund 002, Unit 8195) to finance this work.
