RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:

a. Approve and authorize advanced step placement for Eric Bixler at Step 7 of the Chief Deputy Sheriff salary range effective July 7, 2025, in accordance with Personnel Policies and Practices Resolution (PPPR) No. 98-394, Section A.1.11.5.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

Placement at an advanced step may be requested to compensate an employee, commensurate with their specialized knowledge, skill, years of relevant service, and recognition of their current compensation package.  Pursuant to the provisions of Personnel Policies and Practices Resolution (PPPR) No. 98-394, Board of Supervisors’ approval is required to authorize placement above step 3 in Unit Y. 

Chief Deputy Eric Bixler has dedicated his life to public service for more than 35 years.  Eric has served as an Emergency Medical Technician, a member of the United States Army and during law school he clerked at the Orange County Public Defender’s Office.  Eric started his law enforcement career with the Los Angeles Police Department in 1996.  During his time with the Los Angeles Police Department Eric rose to the rank of Lieutenant II.  While with LAPD Eric has been a federally sworn Task Force Officer with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, United States Marshals Service, and Drug Enforcement Agency. Eric has worked numerous assignments during his tenure including patrol, gangs, narcotics, crime analysis, Civil Rights Integrity, Transnational Organized Crime, firearms trafficking and importing, RICO, Homicide Conspiracies and Interpol.
