RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors receive a presentation outlining the County’s accomplishments at Laguna Seca Recreation Area since taking ownership of the business on January 1, 2017.

 

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

Beginning in January 2017, the County of Monterey purchased all assets at Laguna Seca Recreation Area (LSRA) including all raceway related business. Since that time, Monterey County has been actively engaged in the improvement of the facility, including the iconic Laguna Seca Raceway and all related business practices.

 

Between January 1, 2017, and the present, many improvements have been accomplished by the County, including new paving and paddock restrooms. Over $5.5 million in capital improvements and $1.6 million in equipment. The County has negotiated and brought major events back to the facility such as Porsche Rennsport and IndyCar. The County has revamped the Track Rental Program and increased available funds for reinvestment. The County entered into a new agreement with All Fields Sports on January 1, 2018, for the purpose of securing sponsorships, along with hospitality and vendor sales. Greater detail as to the County engagement and improvement is provided in the attached presentation.

 

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

The County Administrative Office has worked with the following departments to achieve these accomplishments: Contracts & Purchasing, Information Technology, County Counsel, Risk Management, RMA-Public Works and RMA-Architectural Services. The County Administrative Office prepared this report.

 

FINANCING:

There is no change in financial responsibility to receive this report.
