RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Accept and approve the Emergency Medical Services Agency (EMS) Annual Report for Fiscal Year 2018-19.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The County of Monterey Emergency Medical Services Agency (EMS) completed its Agency and EMS System Annual Report for Fiscal Year 2018-19 activities. This report is regularly presented to the Board of Supervisors to keep the Board and other County officials informed about the work done by the EMS Agency and EMS system stakeholders.

Sections of the Monterey County EMS Agency Annual Report for Fiscal Year 2018-19 continue to highlight two of the larger, interrelated initiatives of the year. One is the successful implementation of a single, countywide EMS Data System that now allows for meaningful quality improvement activities and benchmarking throughout the EMS System.

The other is the continued revision and creation of policies and protocols which keep the Monterey County EMS system current with the latest developments in both clinical care and system management. The report also highlights other EMS Agency accomplishments including better operational and clinical system metrics reporting, new communications policies which enhance how medical calls are screened and dispatched, the maturation of the trauma system, the implementation of an EMS App (application) for use by system providers, and work on several emergency preparedness related plans to facilitate the County's response to medical/health needs during a disaster.

This work supports the Monterey County Health Department 2018-2020 Strategic Plan Initiative Goal 3.
