RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors approve a change in date for the Sea Otter Classic Sports Festival at Laguna Seca Recreation Area for the year 2020 as mutually agreed upon with Sea Otter Classic, Inc.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
On December 22, 2016, the Board of Supervisors approved a 15-year Facility Use Agreement between the Sea Otter Classic, Inc., doing business as the Sea Otter Classic, and the County of Monterey to produce the Sea Otter Classic Sports Festival at the Laguna Seca Recreation Area for the years 2017-2031.
Section II - Facility Use Dates and Term, paragraph A, states, "COUNTY reserves the right and shall maintain final control of scheduling of events, including the Sports Festival, at the Laguna Seca Recreation Area. The above scheduled dates can be changed only by mutual agreement between the parties."
Sea Otter Classic is an international event and due to the current international travel climate, they have requested a change in date from April 16-19, 2020 to October 1-4, 2020. The new date is agreeable to the County Administrative Office and A&D Narigi; and, staff will work with Sea Otter Classic to ensure a smooth transition to a new date.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
The Office of the County Counsel has reviewed and approved this request.
FINANCING:
The total amount of direct revenue will not be impacted except for timing as this change will delay receipt of the final payment till late September. The delay will also impact receipt of Transient Occupancy Tax, Sales Tax and overall regional business activity in the month of April.
