Approve the proposed amendments to the
Bylaws of the
Area Agency
on Aging Advisory Council.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSI
ON:
The County of M
onterey Department of Social Services (DSS) oversees the
Area Agency
on Aging (AAA) and administers various programs funded through the Federal Older Americans Act. The AAA Advisory Council assists in the development of strategic plans required by funding agreements overseen by the California Department of
Aging. As part of that effort, AAA Advisory Council members carry out advisory functi
ons which further the AAA missi
on of development and coordinating community-based systems of care and services for older pers
ons, individuals with disabilities and family caregivers residing in M
onterey County.
The California Department of
Aging periodically requires a review and update of the Advisory Council’s
bylaws. The most recent amended versi
on was approved by the M
onterey County Board of Supervisors in June 2022.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT/COMMITTEE ACTI
ONS:
The drafted changes to the
Bylaws were approved by the AAA Advisory Council
on April 24, 2025. County Counsel provided input to the AAA Advisory Council and has approved the
bylaws as to form.
FINANCING:
Approval of this acti
on item has no impact
on the County General Fund.
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS STRATEGIC PLAN GOALS:
The
Area Agency
on Aging Advisory Council is mandated by the California Department of
Aging as part of a funding agreement to provide coordinati
on of services for the
aging populati
on. As a result, it correlates to the Administrati
on Strategic Initiative adopted by the Board of Supervisors by providing input and support in addressing issues that relate to older M
onterey County residents.
