RECOMMENDATION/SUMMARY:
a. Ratify approval of Amendment #1 to an Agreement between County of Monterey on behalf of Monterey County Free Libraries and Columbia Telecommunications Corporation Technology & Energy to upgrade the connection from branch libraries to CENIC from 1Gbps to 10Gbps
DISCUSSION:
The Monterey County Free Libraries have been connected to CalREN, the high speed internet backbone connecting California's UC and CSU campus locations, California Community Colleges, California's K-12 public schools, and California's Public Libraries, for many years; and have a separate contract with Columbia Telecommunications Corporation Technology & Energy for no cost facilitation of this connection, approved by the Board of Supervisors on May 17, 2022. The staff of the Monterey County Free Libraries applied for and received a grant totaling $542,962.84 from the California Library Connect project of the California State Library. This grant agreement was ratified July 18, 2023 and included the funds to upgrade the 1Gbps connection from Monterey County Free Libraries to CalREN to 10Gbps.
This contract Amendment was sent in November, without sufficient time to prepare for a Board...
