SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
On August 25, 2020, the Board of Supervisors received the COVID-19 PANDEMIC DISPARATE IMPACT REPORT: Strategies for Addressing the Disparate Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Communities of Color in Monterey County. The report was developed by the County Administrative Office, in partnership with the Health Department, Department of Social Services, Housing and Community Development and with the participation and insights from additional County departments as well as community based organizations. The Board’s direction included further review and discussion by the Legislative and Health, Housing and Human Services Board Committees. A review of the prioritization of legislative advocacy strategies was conducted and discussed by the Legislative Committee on October 22, 2020. Strategies were also discussed by the Health, Housing and Human Services Committee on November 30, 2020.
The Disparate Impact Report identified strategies to address the underlying conditions which contribute to the racial disparities as made evident in local data reports and statistics. The proposed strategies outlined in ATTACHMENT A, continue to be developed and refined by the Disparate Impact County team which meets weekly and continuously seeks collaboration with community partners and community resident leaders to further maximize the impact of our collective efforts. The strategies also serve as a starting point for determining the areas of focus by the COVID-19 Collaborative led by the Community Foundation for Monterey County.
