Approve and authorize the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office to accept in-kind donations of gym flooring, fitness equipment, Jr. Rodeo sponsorship, Monterey Peninsula Foundation gift package and California State Sheriff’s Association (CSSA) gift baskets with an estimated market value of $14,576 from the Monterey County Sheriff’s Advisory Council as detailed in Attachment A.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The Monterey County Sheriff’s Advisory Council is a non-profit 501(c)(3) registered with the State of California. Recently, the Sheriff’s Advisory Council purchased and donated gym flooring, fitness equipment, Jr. Rodeo Sponsorship, Monterey Peninsula Foundation gift package and CSSA gift baskets with an estimated market value of $14,576.
In 2023, the Sheriff’s Advisory Council initiated a fundraising campaign to generate funds to renovate the Wellness Facility located at the Sheriff’s Office Public Safety Building (PSB). The Sheriff’s Office Public Safety Building located at 1414 Natividad Road, Salinas, California, was originally built with designated space for a gym and outfitted with gym equipment. The original gym equipment had deteriorated with use and time. Thereafter, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) received donation of fitness equipment, purchased from Opti-Fit Fitness Solutions, from the Sheriff’s Advisory Council and approved by this board. Offering access to a Wellness Facility to all Sheriff’s Office employees is essential for the mental health and wellbeing of those personnel faced with fast paced work environment and often greater risk to dangerous situations.
Continuing their ongoing support for the health and wellness of Sheriff’s Officer personnel the Sheriff’s Advisory recently purchased and donated to the Sheriff’s Office PSB Wellness Center a Matrix Lifestyle Climb Mill with LED console by Opti-Fit Fitness Solutions.
At the conclusion of the renovation of the PSB Wellness Center the Sheriff’s Office evaluated the fitness equipment remaining to determine if pieces remained with viable service life in an effort to expand Sheriff’s Office Wellness Centers to other facilities staff by Sheriff’s Office personnel. The Sheriff’s Office is in the process of relocating fitness equipment with a remaining useable lifespan originally at the Wellness Facility located at the Sheriff’s Office Public Safety Building to the Sheriff’s Jail facility. The development of a Wellness Center inside the Jail facility will increase access to health and wellness tools for staff assigned to the Jail facility. In advance of this planned move, the Sheriff’s Office will install the donated gym flooring to the Jail Wellness Center.
The Sheriff’s Office will be sponsoring a $500.00 Jr Rodeo Buckle June 9, 2024, at the California Jr Rodeo Salinas located at 1034 North Main Street, Salinas California. The sponsorship will give young riders and ropers a chance to learn, grow and connect with the spirit of the Wild West from stick horse races, to barrel races to team roping. The sponsorship will support events for every age and skill level.
The Sheriff attended the California State Sheriff’s Association Conference at the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort and Spa located at 44600 Indian Wells Lane, Indian Wells California from June 3, 2024, through June 7, 2024. The Conference hosts the 58 Sheriff’s across the State of California, and two gift baskets were donated by Sheriff’s Advisory Council to represent the heart of Monterey County. The Monterey Peninsula Foundation donated various items in the gift baskets listed in the attachments.

FINANCING:
The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office is requesting Board’s approval for the acceptance of in-kind donations with an estimated market value of $14,576 from the Monterey County Sheriff’s Advisory Council as detailed in Attachment A. There will be no impact to the General Fund with this action in the current fiscal year. Cost of maintenance of the donated assets, if any and will be included in future budget requests.
