RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:

a. Adopt a Resolution to approve and authorize acceptance of in-kind donations for gym equipment, golf cart, food items and party rental equipment with a market value of $14,974 from the Sheriff’s Advisory Council as detailed in Attachment A.

 

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Advisory Council (SAC)is a non-profit 501(c)(3) registered with the State of California. Recently, the Sheriff’s Advisory Council made in-kind donations to the Sheriff’s Office listed below with a market value of $14,974.

A Matrix Rower w/Basic Console and Matrix Accessory Rack by Opti-Fit Fitness Solutions valued at $3,435.  The equipment is installed in the recently renovated gym in the Wellness Facility at the Sheriff’s Office Public Safety Building located at 1414 Natividad Road, Salinas, California.

A four seat Kandi golf cart with Sheriff’s logos valued at $8,699.  This golf cart will be utilized as mobile security and public relations electric vehicle in various special events to include golf tournaments, parades, car races, fairs and lake events.

The Sheriff’s Office hosted the National Night Out event in Spreckels, California with the SWAT Team, Bomb Team, Search and Rescue Team, Dive Team, Drone Team, Mounted Unit, CHP and Monterey County Fire Department, engaging with members of the community while putting on demonstrations and answering questions.  SAC funded food and beverages from Costco, Walmart and BJ’s Restaurant as well as an inflatable jumper for the children during the community event.  The market value of the items donated by SAC for National Night Out totaled $2,840.

 

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

The Office of County Counsel has reviewed this report. The Auditor-Controller’s Office has provided Guidance on the accounting treatment of the In-kind donations following GASB Statement No. 33.

 

FINANCING:

The Sheriff’s Office acceptance of in-kind donations for gym equipment, golf cart, food items and party rental equipment with a market value of $14,974 from Sheriff’s Advisory Council is detailed in Attachment A. There will be no impact to the General Fund with this action in the current fiscal year. The cost of maintenance of the donated assets, if any and will be included in future budget requests. Additional details for all items can be found in the attachments.
