RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
a. Adopt Plans and Special Provisions for the Juvenile Hall Interim Repairs-Gym Roof Replacement 1420 Natividad Rd, Salinas, California, Project No. 8785, Bid Package No. 10410; and
b. Authorize the Director of Public Works to advertise the Notice to Contractors in the Monterey County Weekly.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Staff is seeking adoption of Plans and Special Provisions and authorization to proceed with the advertising for the Juvenile Hall Interim Repairs-Gym Roof Replacement 1420 Natividad Rd, Salinas, California, Project No. 8785, Bid Package No. 10410 (Project). The bid opening is set for July 18, 2013, at 2:00 p.m., in the Board of Supervisors' Conference Room 1032, Monterey County Government Center, 168 West Alisal Street 1st Floor, Salinas, California 93901. The Notice to Contractors will be duly advertised in the Monterey County Weekly.
The scope for Base Bid, in general, consists of: installation of a new roof system at the Juvenile Hall Gymnasium and related repairs. The scope for Additive Alternate #1 includes: re-roofing of the lower deck covering the adjacent equipment room. The lowest responsible and responsive bidder will be determined for the project by adding the Base Bid plus Additive Alternate #1. Engineer's Estimate for construction of base bid elements is $120,000. The work is anticipated to begin October 2013, with completion by December 2013.
This Project is just one of several scopes of work submitted by the Probation Department that was identified as high priority under the Project entitled Juvenile Hall Interim Repairs.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
The Office of the County Counsel, Auditor-Controller, and Risk Management have reviewed and approved the Special Provisions as to form and legality, fiscal terms, and insurance provisions, respectively. The Probation Department has reviewed the Special Provisions and is in support of the project scope.
FINANCING:
There is no impact to the General Fund. This project is part of the Interim Repair projects for the Probation Department. The Project has been fully funded in Fund 402 by prior Board actions. The Board adopted a budget of $274,207 for the Project for FY 2012-13. As of April 9, 2013, the remaining balance is $239,206. This amount is sufficient to cover estimated costs for the recommended project scope, including design, construction, and project management. Funds remaining at the close of the Project will be available to address additional scopes of work at this site.
