SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Family medicine residents from NMC have been rotating with OB/GYNs at CSVS for many years as part of their required rotation in outpatient gynecology. This allows them to learn to assess and manage common gynecologic problems and perform procedures in an office setting environment, preparing them for comprehensive primary care practice.
The OB/GYN attending physicians at CSVS have been enthusiastic and skilled teachers of NMC residents for many years.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
County Counsel has reviewed and approved this agreement as to legal form, and the Auditor-Controller has reviewed and approved as to payment provisions.
FINANCING:
There is no cost associated with this agreement.
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS STRATEGIC INITIATIVES:
The educational collaboration between NMC and CSVS improves NMC's ability to train family physicians to better prepare for providing comprehensive medical care to the people of Monterey County. During their three (3) years of residency training, residents provide medical care for patients at NMC as well as at the Monterey County Clinic Services Bureau. In addition, after graduation from residency, many of NMC residents go on to practice primary care in Monterey County.
