RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Approve and adopt revisions to the Bylaws of the Commission on
Disabilities.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The Monterey County Commission on Disabilities, then referred to as the Monterey County Americans with Disabilities Act Advisory Commission, was established pursuant to Resolution No. 01-073, as amended by Resolution 11-257. The Monterey County Commission on Disabilities is comprised of members from various community-based organizations that represent the interests and concerns of people with disabilities; individuals representing the cities within Monterey County; members representing each Supervisorial District, labor groups, Department Heads, and community-based organizations.
A primary function of the Monterey County Commission on Disabilities is to advise the Board of Supervisors regarding matters and issues relating to equal access to employment, public services, communications, and public accommodations for people with disabilities.
As a Commission of the County of Monterey, the Commission on Disabilities is required to have bylaws and ensure that those bylaws reflect the role and the responsibilities of the Commission and its members. Attachment A is the current Bylaws for the Commission and Attachment B is the proposed Revised Bylaws. The revision of the bylaws was a collaborative effort. The revised bylaws were approved by the Commission on Disabilities during their meeting of March 31, 2014.

The amended bylaws were reviewed by County Counsel.
