SIGNED BOARD REPORT"|EMONTEREY COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
MEETING: January 11, 2011 Consent AGENDA NO.: 47
SUBJECT: Accept the Annual Report for Fiscal Year 2009-2010 from the Monterey
County Fish and Game Advisory Commission
DEPARTMENT: Parks
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors accept the FY 2009-2010 Annual Report from
the Monterey County Fish and Game Advisory Commission.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION
Monterey County Resolution No. 81-239 provides that the Fish and Game Commission submit
an annual report of their activities to the Board of Supervisors.
The Commission makes recommendations to the Board of Supervisors relative to the
preservation and propagation of fish and wildlife, as well as educational and youth programs or
activities related to fish and game, through the use of the Monterey County Fish and Game
Propagation Fund. The Commission also investigates and evaluates proposals for projects
intended to enhance and protect fish and wildlife.
This year, the Fish and Game Commission approved grants over several months for both 2009
and 2010. At the end of FY 2009/2010, the Fish and Game Commission was able to provide ten
grants totaling $24,800.00 to the following nine recipients: Hunters Supply twice), Monterey
Bay Salmon and Trout Project, Lazy Arrow, Rancho Cielo, Freedom II, YONA Pond, CaITIP,
Snow Goose Productions and South Monterey County Sportsmen's Association.
The Commission holds six public meetings in Monterey County at a regularly established time.
A guest speaker is invited to each meeting to inform the Fish and Game regarding topics of
interest, which sometimes results in the Commission taking action through letters, legislation, or
recommendations to the Board of Supervisors. Salient topics discussed this past fiscal year
were: stocking fish, predatory and invasive issues, revenue allocation, Youth Shoot, and shortage
of California Fish and Game wardens.
Funding for the Fish and Game Commission is a combination of funds deposited into the fish
and wildlife propagation fund from court fines, and forfeitures. The Board of Supervisors
approved financial support to the Commission in the amount of a $10,000 in County contribution
for Fiscal Year 2009-10 toward the Commission's mission to preserve and propagate fish and
wildlife and to encourage associated wildlife educational programs.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
The Monterey County Fish and Game Advisory Commission reviewed this report on December
14, 2010 concurs with staff's recommendation.
