a. Authorize and approve the Director of Monterey County Free Libraries (“MCFL”) or designee, to approve a grant award of $6,250 from the Pacific Library Partnership to enhance the “Library of Things” materials, and
b. Authorize the Director of the MCFL to take all steps necessary to implement the grant, and
c. Approve and authorize the Director of the MCFL or his or her designee to execute to three (3) future amendments where the combined amendments do not exceed 20% ($1,250) of the original Agreement amount, do not significantly change the scope of services, and do not increase the total not to exceed amount over $7,500

RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
a. Authorize and approve the Director of Monterey County Free Libraries (“MCFL”) or designee, to approve a grant award of $6,250 from the Pacific Library Partnership to enhance the “Library of Things” materials, and

SUMMARY:
The staff of the Monterey County Free Libraries (“MCFL”) applied for and received a grant from the Pacific Library Partnership for enhancement of the “Library of Things” materials, lending kits, objects, tools, toys, auditory and visual enhancement technology, and other similar items to library patrons.
DISCUSSION:
The Library of Things is a service adding non-traditional items to the materials able to be borrowed from your public library. This grant is from the Pacific Library Partnership, a consortium of libraries from Monterey County through the San Francisco Bay Area. The Partnership offers small grants to member libraries to meet goals of innovation and public service. The staff of MCFL determined this application would enhance service to patrons, and applied for the grant funds. Adding this option to MCFL enables us to serve more patrons in an innovative manner.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
County Council has reviewed as to form.
FINANCING:
Funds for the materials will come from the grant, on a reimbursement basis. Staff support to order and manage receipts and reconciliation along with grant management and reporting will be from the library’s operational budget, using existing permanent staff.
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS STRATEGIC INITIATIVES:
Bringing new and different types of library materials to the communities served by MCFL by the serves the goals of the County of Monterey.
