SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The Next Generation Radio System (NGEN) is operated and maintained by the Information Technology Department (ITD), supporting roughly 40 public safety agencies through the governance of the NGEN Services Agreement. NGEN is a collective effort linking 28 public agencies within the County, including all its incorporated cities and some special districts providing consistent and protected interoperable communications for user agencies within the County. The NCFPD station site has housed NGEN radio equipment that supports system coverage in the northern portion of Monterey County since 2022.
The NCFPD and ITD wish to extend the term of the agreement for an additional five years. This will enable the County to continue to operate and maintain radio equipment for the purpose of providing public safety communications in North Monterey County and its integration into the entire NGEN system.
The Chief Information Officer recommends entering into this non-standard Agreement to maintain its mission critical communications for law, fire, and ambulance personnel and to facilitate local government, state and federal mutual aid responses within the north Monterey County operational area.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
County Counsel has reviewed this non-standard agreement and approves as to legal form. Auditor-Controller’s Office has reviewed this agreement.
FINANCING:
No additional funds are required as the cost of this site Agreement is provided at no cost to the County.
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS STRATEGIC INITIATIVES:
The approval of this Agreement will continue to allow the County to provide mission critical NGEN radio communications in the Northwest portions of the County for public safety and first responder agencies.
