a. Approve and authorize the Director of Health or Assistant Director of Health to execute a Social Work Field Practicum Agreement between the Monterey County Health Department (“MCHD”) and Brandman University (“University”) for students to obtain practical, clinical experience at MCHD beginning on the date of contract execution through February 28, 2018.
b. Authorize the Director of Health and Assistant Director of Health to approve up to three future amendments to this Agreement where the amendment doesn’t extend the term by more than 12 months or significantly change the scope of work.

RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
a. Approve and authorize the Director of Health or Assistant Director of Health to execute a Social Work Field Practicum Agreement between the Monterey County Health Department (“MCHD”) and Brandman University (“University”) for students to obtain practical, clinical experience at MCHD beginning on the date of contract execution through February 28, 2018.
b. Authorize the Director of Health and Assistant Director of Health to approve up to three future amendments to this Agreement where the amendment doesn’t extend the term by more than 12 months or significantly change the scope of work.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
MCHD requests the Board of Supervisors to approve a Social Work Field Practicum Agreement for students enrolled at University who require practical, clinical experience towards earning their Master of Social Work for students to obtain practical, clinical experience at MCHD beginning on the date of contract execution through February 28, 2018. While providing “real world” experience for student interns, MCHD is positioned to attract University graduates to apply for future job openings, thereby creating a pipeline for students who have Spanish language skills and a desire to pursue their social work career in Monterey County.
While this work is not directly in support of a Health Department strategic initiative, it is in support of one or more of the ten essential public health services, specifically: 4) Mobilize community partnerships and action to identify and solve health problems and 8) Assure competent public and personal health care workforce.
This Agreement contains a 30 day termination “without cause” provision (Section V, Paragraph D), which provides that either the County or University may cancel the Agreement.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
County Counsel, Auditor-Controller, and Risk Management have reviewed and concur. A copy of the Agreement is on file with Clerk of the Board.
FINANCING:
There are no fiscal provisions included in this Agreement. .
