RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors receive the Commission on Disabilities 2022 Annual Report.

 

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

The Commission on Disabilities (COD) was established in February 2001 to serve as an advisor to the Monterey County Board of Supervisors regarding matters to equal access and resources to employment, public services, communications, and public accommodations for people with disabilities.

 

The Commission on Disabilities is comprised of diverse members representing Supervisorial Districts, City Representatives, Department Heads Council, and community-based organizations.

The duties of the Commission on Disabilities, in part, is to: 1) hold public meetings in accordance with the Brown Act at regular intervals regarding matters pertaining to persons with disabilities; and, 2) review and advise the Board of Supervisors on matters relating to equal access to employment, public services, communication, and public accommodations for people with disabilities.

The COD is charged with submitting an annual report to the Board of Supervisors each year, summarizing the Commission’s activities for the prior year. It is recommended the Board receive the COD’s 2022 Annual Report.

 

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

The report was reviewed and approved by the Commission on Disabilities on September 30, 2022. County Counsel reviewed the report on October 6, 2022.

 

FINANCING:

There is no financial impact to receive this report.

 

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS STRATEGIC INITIATIVES:

The recommended action supports the Board of Supervisors’ Administration and Infrastructure strategic initiatives.
