Title
Consider adoption of an ordinance amending section 12.24.010 of the Monterey County Code to rescind the designation of the following roads as through highways: Barloy Canyon Road from Watkins Gate Road generally southeast to its terminus; Watkins Gate Road from West Camp Street generally northeast to its terminus; and West Camp Street from Sherman Boulevard generally southeast to its terminus in the East Garrison area of the unincorporated area of the County of Monterey.
Report

RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors consider adoption of an ordinance amending section 12.24.010 of the Monterey County Code to rescind the designation of the following roads as through highways: Barloy Canyon Road from Watkins Gate Road generally southeast to its terminus; Watkins Gate Road from West Camp Street generally northeast to its terminus; and West Camp Street from Sherman Boulevard generally southeast to its terminus in the East Garrison area of the unincorporated area of the County of Monterey.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
On March 18, 2014, the Board introduced, waived reading and set today's date and time to consider adoption of the ordinance amending Section 12.24.010 of the Monterey County Code.  On December 17, 2013, the Board adopted an ordinance establishing several through highways in the East Garrison area.  After further review, staff determined that it is unnecessary to designate several of the roads as through highways because the roads are not part of the County maintained road system.  Staff is recommending that the attached ordinance be considered for adoption to remove the roads not maintained by the County from Title 12 to correct the action previously taken by the Board designating these roads as through highways in error.

The proposed ordinance would amend Section 12.24.010 of the Monterey County Code to remove the designation as through highways of the following roads: Barloy Canyon Road from Watkins Gate Road generally southeast to its terminus; Watkins Gate Road from West Camp Street generally northeast to its terminus; and West Camp Street from Sherman Boulevard generally southeast to its terminus in the East Garrison area of the unincorporated area of the County of Monterey.
