SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

The Nutrition Services Department at Natividad Medical Center is moving to implement BluePrint 360, a US Foods-branded foodservice software solution that supports key operational functions in healthcare foodservice. This system facilitates real-time coordination between foodservice workflows and the electronic health record (EHR), enabling improved safety, efficiency, and compliance.

BluePrint 360 functions as a bridge between ordering, production, and clinical systems. It integrates patient diet orders, allergy information, and individual needs from the EHR into daily meal service operations. It also helps standardize back-end processes such as inventory, menu updates, and tray ticket generation.

While BluePrint 360 provides the hospital-facing interface used by staff, it relies on connectivity with another software to perform essential functions such as inventory tracking, nutrient analysis, and production forecasting. This connectivity is what allows real-time updates to reach the frontline team and ensures that dietary orders are translated accurately into patient meals.

                     Key operational benefits include:

Real-time meal accuracy aligned with patient clinical needs

Automated workflows that reduce manual entry and duplicate work

Improved communication between the kitchen, diet office, and nursing units

Better control of waste and inventory through streamlined production tools

Compliance support for hospital and regulatory standards

The use of BluePrint 360 allows Nutrition Services to align food operations more closely with patient care, improving service quality while minimizing delays and inefficiencies.

The Office of County Counsel has reviewed and approved this agreement as to form, and the Auditor-Controller has reviewed and approved as to payment provisions. The agreement has also been reviewed and approved by NMC’s Finance Committee and by its Board of Trustees on June 13, 2025.

The cost for this agreement is $17,878 of which $16,850 is included in the FY 2025-26 Recommended Budget. Amounts for remaining years of the agreement will be included in those budgets as appropriate. Funding will be provided from NMC’s Enterprise Fund 451-9600-6408.

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS STRATEGIC INITIATIVES:

The BluePrint 360 food service software advances the Board of Supervisors' (BOS) Health and Human Services initiative by improving nutrition accessibility, patient safety, and operational efficiency. Its paperless kitchen reduces waste, supports eco-friendly practices, and enhances workflow efficiency, while features like EHR integration, bedside ordering, and automatic nutrient analysis ensure patients receive personalized, medically appropriate meals. This all-in-one solution enhances food quality, reduces errors, and aligns with sustainability and health-focused service delivery goals.
