Report
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors consider adoption of an ordinance amending Section 12.28.010 of the Monterey County Code to revise and extend the distance of the current no parking restriction on the west side of Boronda Road from a point 285 feet north of the centerline of Madison Lane, northerly for a distance of 220 feet, in place of the current 100 feet, in the unincorporated area of the County of Monterey.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
On February 5, 2013, the Board introduced, waived the reading, and set today's date and time to consider adoption of the ordinance.  Ordinance No. 5028 approved on May 2, 2006 established restricted parking on the west side of Boronda Road from a point 285 feet north of the centerline of Madison Lane, northerly for a distance of 100 feet.  Local residents have requested that the distance be extended for several reasons, including improving driver sight distance.  The sight distance between the resident's northerly driveway and southbound traffic is restricted because employees from nearby businesses currently park vehicles on the shoulder area north of the second driveway.  The Resource Management Agency - Public Works staff reviewed the site and recommends the restricted parking be extended northerly an additional 220 feet from its current terminus.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
The Office of the County Counsel has approved the ordinance as to form.  The California Highway Patrol concurs with this recommendation.

FINANCING:
There is no financial impact to the General Fund.  Traffic control devices are paid from the Road Fund.  The cost to install the necessary signing is estimated at $800.00.  There are sufficient funds available in the Road Fund (Fund 002, Unit 8195) to finance this work.
