RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the County of Monterey Board of Supervisors:

a. Approve and authorize the Director of Health or Assistant Director of Health to sign Renewal and Amendment No. 1 to an Agreement between the County of Monterey and Altius Medical, for the provision of medical waste management and disposal services, extending the contract term by two (2) years to February 28, 2025, adding $20,000 to the Agreement for a total contract amount of $40,000; and

b. Approve and authorize the Health Director or Assistant Health Director to approve up to two (2) future amendments that do not exceed 10% ($2,000) of the Agreement amount and do not significantly alter the scope of services.

 

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

The County of Monterey executed an Agreement with Altius Medical to provide retrieval and disposal services of hazardous medical waste at the Monterey County Animal Services Facility at 160 Hitchcock Road, Salinas.

 

This Renewal and Amendment No. 1 extends the term of the Agreement by two years, through February 28, 2025, and adds $20,000 for a total Agreement amount of $40,000.

 

A Renewal and Amendment are required, as the current Agreement expired on February 28, 2023, while in the process of securing the required insurance documents from the vendor.

 

This work supports the Monterey County Health Department 2018-2022 Strategic Plan Goal: 2. Enhance community health and safety through prevention. It also supports one of the ten essential public health services, specifically: 6. Enforce laws and regulations that protect health and ensure safety.

 

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

The Offices of the County Counsel and Auditor-Controller have reviewed and approved this Renewal and Amendment No. 1 as to form and fiscal provisions, respectively.

 

FINANCING:

Appropriations for this Renewal and Amendment No. 1 are included in the Health Department’s (HEA001-8442) FY 2022-23 Adopted Budget and provision for it will be made in the Department’s Requested Budget for the years out as needed.
