Approve and authorize the Library Director or Designee, to execute a (3) three-year Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) for the term of June 27, 2023 to June 26, 2026 with the Museum Foundation of Pacific Grove DBA Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History (“PGMNH”) to partner with Monterey County on Behalf of the Monterey County Free Libraries (“MCFL”), and
b. Authorize the Library Director or Designee, to execute up to three (3) future annual amendments to the agreement that do not significantly alter the scope of work;

RECOMMENDATION/SUMMARY:
a. Approve and authorize the Library Director or Designee, to execute a (3) three-year Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) for the term of June 27, 2023 to June 26, 2026 with the Museum Foundation of Pacific Grove DBA Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History (“PGMNH”) to partner with Monterey County on Behalf of the Monterey County Free Libraries (“MCFL”), and
b. Authorize the Library Director or Designee, to execute up to three (3) future annual amendments to the agreement that do not significantly alter the scope of work;
DISCUSSION:
The Monterey County Free Libraries (MCFL) offer a wide variety of services and programs that enrich the lives of the communities we serve. This partnership will allow programs and workshops from this local museum to be offered in County Library locations at not charge to the public. It will expand the options and offerings in library facilities, enabling community agencies to share local knowledge and resources and allowing all community members to try new things free of charge.
The Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History has a robust outreach and public education program. This MOU is intended to create an ongoing partnership, detail obligations and responsibilities for both agencies, and ensure appropriate liability coverage for these offerings.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
County Counsel has reviewed and approved the MOU as to legal form. A copy of the MOU will be placed on file with Clerk of the Board.
FINANCING:
The MOU contains no financial provisions between the two (2) agencies and will not impact the General Fund.
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS STRATEGIC INITIATIVES:
The partnership between the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History and Monterey County Free Libraries would allow all library branches to share the wonders of the local natural history with community members who visit the library, improving residents knowledge of local natural history as well as enriching their understanding of our local ecology and environment. The partnership would be mutually beneficial.
