RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:

SUMMARY :
Natividad Medical Center operates Family Medicine Residency Program affiliated with the University of California’s San Francisco Medical School with a total of thirty residents that practice in multiple settings including the inpatient labor and delivery unit. It is necessary for the Residency Program to maintain a core team of qualified family medicine physicians made up of employed and independent contractor physicians for patient care and the supervision of its residents.
DISCUSSION:
Natividad Medical Center has an agreement with Dopamine Therapeutics, Inc., for which Dr. Nathaniel Lepp provides family medicine services to provide family medicine and supervision of resident services for the Residency Program from time to time as needed. Natividad Medical Center wishes to amend the agreement before the term date to add additional funds and to extend the term by eighteen months from the date of expiration so that Dr. Lepp can continue to provide the same services without interruption. Due to unanticipated service demands, Dr. Lepp has provided significantly more coverage than originally projected under the current agreement, necessitating a request for additional funds prior to the agreement’s term date to ensure continuity of care and resident supervision. Natividad Medical Center has obtained an independent opinion of fair market value supporting the payment terms.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT/COMMITTEE ACTIONS:
County Counsel has reviewed and approved this Amendment as to legal form. Auditor-Controller has reviewed and approved this Amendment as to fiscal provisions. The Amendment has also been reviewed and approved by Natividad Medical Center’s Finance Committee and Board of Trustees.
FINANCING:
The cost of this Amendment is $100,000. The total not to exceed amount of the Agreement is $500,000 for the period of August 1, 2019 through December 31, 2028. Actual costs are contingent upon Dr. Lepp’s level of participation in the panel, which fluctuates based on patient volume and provider availability. Natividad Medical Center maintains agreements with multiple providers to ensure sufficient family medicine coverage. Annual expenditures under this Agreement are not expected to exceed $85,915.70 and are included in the Fiscal Year 2026-27 Adopted Budget. The remaining balance will be budgeted in subsequent fiscal years. Funding will be provided from Natividad Medical Center's Enterprise Fund 451-9600-6608.
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS STRATEGIC PLAN GOALS:
The services rendered in this agreement provide Natividad Medical Center with the additional support it needs to delivery reliable and high-quality patient care, which improves the health and quality of life for patients and their families.
