Approve and adopt the proposed amended bylaws of the Military and Veterans Affairs Advisory Commission.

Report

RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors approve and adopt the proposed amended bylaws of the Military and Veterans Affairs Advisory Commission.

SUMMARY:
The Board of Supervisors established the Military and Veterans Affairs Advisory Commission as an oversight and advisory body supporting local veteran’s group activities and act as the liaison between the veterans’ community and the County government in conjunction with the County Military & Veterans Service Office. To bring the bylaws up to date, seven (7) minor technical changes clarifying certain aspects of the bylaws are reflected in the proposed amended bylaws.

DISCUSSION:
The Military and Veterans Affairs Advisory Commission recommends to increase its total number of members by two (2) additional members, each of whom is affiliated with veterans or service members in Monterey County but not a members of the United Veterans Council.  Further, the Commission recommends minor other edits to comply with the Brown Act Modernization Act.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT/COMMITTEE ACTIONS:
The Office of Military and Veterans Affairs, the Military and Veterans Affairs Advisory Commission, and the Office of County Counsel are in concurrence and support this action.

FINANCING:
There is no impact on the County General Fund.
