Before the Board of Supervisors in and for the
County of Monterey, State of California
Resolution No: 10 233
Adopt Resolution to approve the Extension Agreement of the
Memorandum of Understanding between the Monterey County
Registered Nurses Association Unit S) and the County of Monterey
for one year, effective July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011.
WHEREAS, the Monterey County Registered Nurses Association Association) Unit S)
and the County of Monterey have agreed to a Memorandum of Understanding regarding wages,
hours, and other terms and conditions of employment, which Memorandum of Understanding
expires June 30, 2010; and
WHEREAS, the Association and the representatives of the County have approved the
attached Extension Agreement dated July 1, 2010 to extend the current Memorandum of
Understanding for one additional year on the terms and conditions set forth in the Extension
Agreement.
NOW, THEREFORE, the Monterey County Board of Supervisors hereby resolved to
approve the attached Extension Agreement with the Association on the terms and conditions set
forth therein for the period July 1, 2010 to and including June 30, 2011.
PASSED AND ADOPTED on this 27th day of July, 2010, upon motion of Supervisor Potter,
seconded by Supervisor Armenta, by the following vote, to-wit:
AYES: Supervisors Armenta, Calcagno, Salinas, Parker, Potter

SUBJECT: Adopt the attached Resolution to approve the Extension Agreement of the
Memorandum of Understanding between the Monterey County Registered Nurses
Association Unit S) and the County of Monterey for one year, effective July 1,
2010 to June 30, 2011.

RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors adopt the attached Resolution to approve the
Extension Agreement of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Monterey County
Registered Nurses Association Unit S) and the County of Monterey for one year, effective July
1, 2010 to June 30, 2011.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The Monterey County Registered Nurses Association, Unit S and the County of Monterey struck
a successor agreement in July 2010 for one year to begin on July 1, 2010 and to expire on June
30, 2011. The extension is attached as Exhibit 1 and includes a rollover of the current
memorandum" at status quo."
The extension was ratified by Unit S on June 30, 2010 and signed by the Association on July 1,
2010.

The County of Monterey and the Monterey Registered Nurses Association Unit S) agree to
recommend to their respective constituencies the following:
1) Roll over" current memorandum for the MCRNA Unit S; extend the' Memorandum of
Understanding to June 30, 2011.
Maintain the current status quo with no changes to the current contract S) except in dates.
The County will insure that health benefits remain at the current benefit levels without
enhancements or reductions. The County will insure that there are no increases to the
employee for the medical, dental and vision plans except for the dates governing the term of
the agreement. There are no COLAs or other wage increases for the extended MOUs.
2) There are no me too" clauses;
3) The following side letters will continue with the contract to June 30, 2011 to the extent that the
side letter applies to the Monterey County nurses:
a. Limited Re-Opener NMC" side letter between County of Monterey and SEIU 521 Units H & F Attachment
#2 December 13, 2007)
b. Employee Election Official Program" side letter between County of Monterey and SEIU Local 521 Units F, J
and H Attachment #3 February 20, 2002)
c. Premium Holiday Attachment #4- December 29, 2009)
4) The County agrees to drafting an MOU for the nurses association MCRNA Unit S) consistent
with the present MOU where appropriate. The re-drafted MOU will be cost-neutral from the
current MOU.
