RECOMMENDATION/SUMMARY:
a. Ratify approval of a grant award from the California State Library via CTC Technology and Energy for $32,522.53 to add air conditioning and replace doors on the technology room at the Marina Library, and
b. Authorize the Library Director or designee to receive the funds and undertake the work
DISCUSSION:
The staff of the Monterey County Free Libraries applied for and received a grant totaling $32,522.53 from the California Library Connect project of the California State Library.
This project will add air conditioning and replace the doors on the technology room at the Marina Library (190 Seaside Circle Marina). This is to properly temperature control the equipment in the room, mitigating connectivity and equipment issues caused by overheating. This will enhance reliability of the system and life of the equipment.
The final grant agreement was sent for signature in November, after realistic deadlines to bring this to the Board in December. A subsequent message from the California State Library came indicating that any agreements not signed by December 31, 2023 would result in forfeit of the grant funds. As this project is important for consistency and reliability of connectivity, and the grant funds were properly applied for and awarded, the Library Director signed the agreement before Board of Supervisors approval.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
County Counsel has reviewed this item and approved as to form. The Communications and Information Technology Department has reviewed the project and is prepared to provide support.
FINANCING:
This grant award will cover all materials and labor needed for the project. The grant award will cover all materials and labor needed for the project, the FY23-24 Adopted Budget for the Library contains sufficient appropriations for these expenditures.
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS STRATEGIC INITIATIVES:
Continued enhancement and improvement of connectivity at County libraries benefits communities through public library services, service as an anchor institution for small communities, and through libraries serving as temporary evacuation points, resource distribution hubs, and other disaster services.
