Report

RECOMMENDATION:

Authorize the Chief Executive Officer of Natividad Medical Center (NMC) to execute a Program Letter of Agreement with Sun Life Family Health Center for outbound rotations of NMC resident physicians as part of the Family Medicine Residency Program, with an agreement term retroactive to October 1, 2023 through September 30, 2028.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

This Program Letter of Agreement is to authorize elective rotations for Family Medicine Residents at the Sun Life Family Health Center.  Residents are permitted several short electives off site during their 3-year residency at NMC. A strong residency curriculum including a wide array of elective rotations allows us to attract great candidates for the residency. From these we choose those who fit best with our mission and are likely to stay and serve Monterey County residents.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

The Office of County Counsel has reviewed and approved this Program Letter of Agreement as to form, and the Auditor-Controller has reviewed and approved as to payment provisions.

FINANCING:

There is no cost associated with this agreement.

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS STRATEGIC INITIATIVES:

Supporting our Family Medicine residents with elective opportunities leads to a stronger primary care workforce.  Locally we have a major shortage of primary care physicians. A strong residency curriculum including a wide array of elective rotations allows us to attract great candidates for the residency. We choose those who fit best with our mission and are likely to stay and serve Monterey County residents.
