RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended the Board of Supervisors authorize the Deputy Purchasing Agent for Natividad Medical Center (NMC) to execute Renewal and Amendment No. 1 to the Agreement (A-12327 / MYA664) with AllMed Healthcare Management (AllMed) for External Peer Review Services at NMC, extending the Agreement an additional three year period for a revised term of October 1, 2012 through September 30, 2017 and adding $80,000 for a revised total aggregate amount not to exceed $100,000.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
NMC is made up of multiple medical specialties. The Joint Commission requires ongoing monitoring and evaluation of provider performance in order to ensure excellence in physician performance and the highest quality of patient care. It is necessary to obtain the services of an external independent review organization like AllMed Healthcare Management in order to gain objective specialty expertise for some of the smaller specialties and to avoid conflict of interest. AllMed offers comprehensive ongoing external peer review services for continued improvement of patient care and risk reduction at NMC. AllMed also offers special focused evaluations through its panel of over 400 board certified physician specialist, not otherwise available to NMC.
NMC had an Agreement with AllMed to provide external peer review services that expired on September 30, 2014. NMC would like to renew and amend the current Agreement with AllMed Healthcare Management with this Renewal and Amendment No. 1 in order to provide the same external peer review services without interruption. This Renewal and Amendment No. 1 does not change the rate of pay for services.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
County Counsel has reviewed and approved this Renewal and Amendment No. 1 as to legal form and risk provisions, and the Auditor-Controller has reviewed and approved as to payment provisions. This Renewal and Amendment No. 1 has also been reviewed and approved by NMC's Finance Committee, (January 22, 2014) and by its Board of Trustees (February 6, 2014).
FINANCING:
The cost for this Renewal and Amendment No. 1 is $80,000 of which $20,000 is included in the Fiscal Year 2014-15 Adopted Budget. Amounts for remaining years of the Agreement will be included in those budgets as appropriate. There is no impact to the General Fund.
