a. Approve and authorize the Director of the Department of Social Services to sign an agreement for $115,750 with VNA Community Services, Inc. for the provision of a Public Health Nurse at the CHERISH Receiving Center for the period July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2018; and
b. Authorize the Director of the Department of Social Services to sign up to (3) amendments to this Agreement where the total amendments do not exceed 10% ($11,575) of the original contract amount, and do not significantly change the scope of work.

RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
a. Approve and authorize the Director of the Department of Social Services to sign an agreement for $115,750 with VNA Community Services, Inc. for the provision of a Public Health Nurse at the CHERISH Receiving Center for the period July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2018; and
b. Authorize the Director of the Department of Social Services to sign up to (3) amendments to this Agreement where the total amendments do not exceed 10% ($11,575) of the original contract amount, and do not significantly change the scope of work.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Through this Agreement, the Department of Social Services continues its support of children subjected to abuse, neglect, and the trauma experienced through removal from their homes, by providing a Public Health Nurse at the CHERISH Receiving Center.
Nursing support consists of completing medical assessments of youth who have been removed and temporarily placed at the 23-hour CHERISH Receiving Center. Activities include screening and assessment of the health needs of children who are taken into protective custody and awaiting placement in a foster home.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
The Auditor-Controller and Purchasing have reviewed and approved this Agreement. County Counsel has approved the Agreement as to form.
FINANCING:
Funding is provided by Social Services Federal, State revenues and realignment revenues. Sufficient appropriations and estimated revenues in SOCOO5 are included in the FY 2017- 2018 Recommended Budget. Approval of this action has no impact on the County General Fund.
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS STRATEGIC INITIATIVES:
This Agreement correlates to the Health & Human Services Strategic Initiative adopted by the Board of Supervisors by allowing the Department to improve the health and overall quality of life of children who have been removed from their homes and temporarily placed in the CHERISH Receiving Center by providing them with medical assessments from a Public Health Nurse.
