b. Authorize the Public Works Department to advertise the Notice to
Contractors" in The Californian on May 15 and May 20, 2006.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
a. Approve Plans and Special Provisions for construction of the Probation Department Modular
Office Building Relocation and Remodel project; and
b. Authorize the Public Works Department to advertise the Notice to Contractors" in The
Californian on May 15 and May 20, 2006.
SUMMARY:
Approval of the Plans and Special Provisions will authorize the Public Works Department to
proceed with advertising for the Probation Department's Modular Office Building Relocation
and Remodel project. The bid opening is set for May 31, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. in the Board of
Supervisors Conference Room, Government Center, 168 West Alisal Street, l" Floor, Room
1032. Construction is scheduled to begin on June 30, 2006.
DISCUSSION:
The project consists of relocating a used modular building for the Probation Department's
expanding administrative office space requirements. The construction includes site grading,
seismic hold downs, electrical and communications work, minor interior modifications,
Americans with Disabilities Act access ramp, rain gutters, painting and limited concrete
flatwork.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
The Probation Department has participated in the project. County Counsel and Auditor-
Controller offices have reviewed and approved the Special Provisions as to form and fiscal,
respectively.
