a. Receive an update on the County of Monterey’s Risk Management Division’s mission, structure, responsibilities, and goals for Fiscal Year (“FY”) 2024/2025.

RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:

a. Receive an update on the County of Monterey’s Risk Management Division’s mission, structure, responsibilities, and goals for Fiscal Year (“FY”) 2024/2025.

b. Provide direction to staff. 

 

SUMMARY:

The Risk Management Division’s functions of the County are administered in the County Counsel’s Office and is responsible for the management of General Liability, Workers’ Compensation, Health & Safety, Ergonomics, and maintaining lines of insurance.  The County’s Risk Manager will update the Board on the general overview of each program and outline goals for Fiscal Year 2024/2025.

 

DISCUSSION:

The County’s Risk Manger will update the Board on the five majors programs in Risk Management, consisting of general claim information, strategies to reduce risk, and goals for Fiscal Year 2024/2025:

 

1) General Liability

The General Liability program manages claims for damages against the County, including the process of receiving, investigating, and denying or accepting claims after careful consideration.

 

2) Workers’ Compensation

With thorough investigation, the Workers’ Compensation program provides healthcare and benefits to injured workers.

 

3) Health & Safety,

The Health and Safety program provides the County with safety training, injury prevention, CalOSHA compliance, and Department of Transportation compliance. On September 9, 2024, County implemented the Workplace Violence Prevention Policy & Plan in compliance with the newly codified California Labor Code Section 6401.9.

 

4) Ergonomics

The Ergonomics program is available to new employees, employees who changes workstations, or employees who experience discomfort by focusing on neutral postures to prevent Repetitive Strain Injuries (“RSI”).

 

5) Lines of Insurance Coverage 

There are 18 lines of insurance for the County, including general liability, excess general liability, excess workers’ compensation, property, cybersecurity, aircraft, crime, pollution, medical malpractice, etc.

Not applicable.

 

FINANCING:

There is no cost associated with this action.
