T e County of Monterey supports the Salinas Valley Solid Waste Authority's application for a
regional Household Waste Grant for FY 2006/2007.
Tae Salinas Valley Solid Waste Authority has committed to achieve 75% diversion by the year
2 15 and to expand and improve our facilities to provide increased opportunities for residents to
p operly dispose of household hazardous waste. This grant will enable the Authority to design
s to of the art HHW facilities at two key locations in our jurisdiction: Sun Street in Salinas; and

Dear Lew,
The Authority is submitting a grant application to the CIWMB under the Household
Hazardous Waste Grant: 151h Funding Cycle, Fiscal Year 2006/07 for the purpose of
constructing a new and expanded permanent HHW facility at our Sun Street Transfer Station.
In order to receive the maximum grant award of $300,000, the application must be submitted
as a regional application with the support of two or more cities/counties." Due to the
location, the heaviest users of this facility will be the residents of the City of Salinas and the
surrounding unincorporated area of Monterey County.
We are requesting your support by providing two letters on behalf of this project: one letter
of authorization sample attached) and another letter that demonstrates your support of, and
the need for, this type of facility.
The application deadline is May 315`, however, due to staffing constraints we hope to have all
the necessary grant requirements ready to go by May 18`1'. We hope that you will be able to
expedite our request as soon as possible.
