RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt a resolution authorizing and directing the Auditor-Controller to amend Department of Emergency Management’s FY 2026-27 Adopted Budget by increasing appropriations and revenues $151,500 (1001-104001-61000) for the previously approved 2025 California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) County Coordinator Grant Program Extension award (4/5ths vote required).
SUMMARY:
The Department of Emergency Management (DEM) was awarded the 2025 CAL FIRE County Coordinator Grant Program Extension for an additional amount not to exceed $151,500 with an amended period of performance end date from July 31, 2026, to October 15, 2027, for a new performance period of January 1, 2026, to October 15, 2027. On April 14, 2026, the Board of Supervisors approved DEM’s request to submit a grant application to the California Fire Safe Council for the 2025 CAL FIRE County Coordinator Grant Program Extension for an additional amount not to exceed $151,500; and accept the award upon approval. Given the timeframe of the grant extension award notification, this request is included as an amendment to DEM’s FY 2026-27 Adopted Budget. Approval of this action will direct and authorize the Auditor Controllers office to increase appropriations in DEM’s FY 2026-27 Adopted Budget for the grant award.
DISCUSSION:
In March 2026, California Fire Safety Council (CFCS) announced additional funding for the 2025 CAL FIRE County Coordinator Grant Program which enhances wildfire resilience through stronger local planning, community engagement, and coordination. With this program extension, DEM will continue to build and expand efforts to enhance wildfire resilience through stronger local planning, community engagement, and coordination with state and local fire protection districts and other partners. This will enhance the Operational Area capacity and lead efforts to unify, implement mitigation strategies, support county-wide wildfire planning, and contribute to statewide data and preparedness initiatives.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT/COMMITTEE ACTIONS:
County Counsel and the County Administrative Office review documents in relation to the grant and approve as to form.
FINANCING:
There will be no increase in the General Fund Contribution resulting from this Board action, amount is funded by the 2025 California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) County Coordinator Grant Program Extension award.

It also aligns with Sustainable Infrastructure for the Present and Future by promoting long-term resilience through proactive land management and hazard reduction efforts.
