The proposed employment agreement for the Agricultural Commissioner and Sealer of Weights & Measures is being presented for Board consideration. The employment agreement establishes the terms and conditions of employment and serves to confirm the reappointment of the Agricultural Commissioner and Sealer of Weights & Measures for a four year term consistent with applicable State law.
California law requires each county to appoint a County Agricultural Commissioner. Sections 2121 through 2123 of the California Food and Agricultural Code govern the appointment and employment of County Agricultural Commissioners and require the Board of Supervisors to appoint an Agricultural Commissioner for a four-year term, subject to the appointee holding a valid certificate of qualification issued by the California Secretary of Food and Agriculture.
California law also requires each county to appoint a County Sealer of Weights & Measures. Pursuant to Personnel Policies and Practices Resolution (PPPR) No. 98-394, Section A.9.13, an employee serving as Sealer of Weights & Measures is eligible to receive a five percent (5%) premium above the base salary upon Board approval.
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors adopt a Resolution to amend Personnel Policies and Practices Resolution (PPPR) Number 98-394 Appendix A and B to adjust the base wage salary range of the Agricultural Commissioner classification by a total of 10% over the next four (4) years effective as follows:
