SUBJECT MONTEREY-SALINAS TRANSIT, SECTION 5311(F), INTERCITY BUS
APPLICATION, CYCLE THIRTEEN
The Coun of Monterey is submitting this letter of support for the Monterey-Salinas Transit MST), Section
5311(f), Grant Application, Cycle Thirteen.
Public Iran it service is provided between the Monterey County communities of King City, Gonzales, Soledad,
Greenfield, and Salinas. MST provides connections from the Salinas Valley to the Monterey Bay Region and other
intermodal nsportation in downtown Salinas such as AMTRAK, Greyhound, and transit connections to Santa
Clara Coun and the San Francisco Bay Area. This service will effectively link rural communities in Monterey
County to ral and urbanized communities in the Salinas Valley and the Monterey Peninsula. This project will
provide a c itical interregional and intercity transit connection serving all Monterey County residents.
The grant nds being proposed will provide a Sunday transit service between the communities of King City and
Salinas. 11 is proposal clearly meets two main objectives of the Intercity Bus Program:
To support the connection between non-urbanized and the larger regional or national system of intercity bus
service nd other transit systems.
To sup ort services to meet the intercity travel needs of residents in non-urbanized areas.
The Count) of Monterey supports this project and urges funding as requested in the MST grant application.
