Report
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Receive an oral report from the Director of Social and Employment Services on the results of the 2012-13 Employee Giving Campaign.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Between September 10th and October 5th County employees came together to participate in the 2012-13 Employee Giving Campaign.  The Employee Giving Campaign offers County employees a venue to magnify their service to our community by making donations in support of non-profit service organizations through charitable payroll deductions and through fundraising events.

The Campaign itself is run by volunteer coordinators in each County Department who are the key to making it successful. The charitable federations and foundations supporting County Departments that make up the campaign are:

·      United Way of Monterey County, which supports local Monterey County non-profits working with families, children, youth, seniors, and individuals with disabilities
·      Community Health Charities of California, which supports health charities locally and throughout California;
·      Earthshare California, which is an alliance of leading environmental non-profit organizations;
·      American Red Cross which provides emergency and disaster services in our community and beyond;
·      Foundation for Monterey County Free Libraries, which supports our Monterey County Free Libraries;
·      Friends of County Animal Services, which supports our Monterey County Animal Services Center; and,
·      Natividad Medical Foundation, which supports Natividad Medical Center, the County's safety net hospital.

Additionally, employees can designate funds to any 501 (c) (3) non-profit through the campaign, not just the participating federations and foundations.

Through this campaign, Monterey County employees raised $191,099 in 2012-13.  This workplace giving campaign is one of the largest in the County.  Together with the daily community service employees provide in their role as public servants, their generosity in the Employee Giving Campaign makes an important difference for the quality of life in our community and is a point of great pride.

Of particular note, are the Departments where employees were able to increase their giving levels in 2012-13.  These Departments were: the Clerk of the Board's Office, The Monterey County Free Libraries, the Information Technology Department, the County Administrative Office, and the Treasurer-Tax Collector's Office.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
All Departments within the County participated in the Employee Giving Campaign.

FINANCING:
This report has no impact to the County General Fund.
