RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Receive a report and presentation from the Department of Social Services that provide an overview of the Family and Children’s Services branch and staffing updates.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The purpose of this report and presentation is to provide a brief overview of the purpose and function of the Family and Children’s Services (FCS) branch of the Monterey County Department of Social Services. In addition, this report and presentation will include current staffing data in FCS, the impacts of staffing shortages, and a brief overview of the Corrective Action Plan that Family and Children’s Services has entered into with the California Department of Social Services. Finally, the report and presentation will outline the current and long-term strategies being implemented for the recruitment and retention of FCS social workers.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
There is no other agency involvement in the recommended action.
FINANCING:
There are no financial requirements are implications from the recommended action. There will be no impact to the County General Fund.

This report and presentation correlate to the Health & Human Services and Administration Strategic Initiatives adopted by the Board of Supervisors by and overview of the purpose and staff of child welfare services in Monterey County.
