RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Economic Development Committee:
Receive a presentation from the Sustainability Program Manager on Monterey County’s Community Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CCAAP).

SUMMARY:
The County of Monterey is developing a Community Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CCAAP) to provide a comprehensive framework for mitigating and adapting to climate change for the unincorporated portions of the county. The CCAAP will provide a roadmap for reducing local greenhouse gas emissions while also building resilience to future climate impacts and guiding the county’s growth in a sustainable and equitable way.

DISCUSSION:
Climate change is already impacting the region, making the CCAAP an urgent opportunity for community members to provide input and help shape the County’s response to these challenges. Through engagement, the CCAAP intends to reflect the community’s values and needs by involving residents, businesses, and stakeholders throughout its development. The CCAAP will strengthen the region’s resilience to climate challenges while promoting economic opportunities, enhancing quality of life, and preserving natural resources. The plan seeks to build a sustainable future by empowering community members to shape Monterey County’s response to climate change, ensuring it remains a vibrant place for generations.
