RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Approve and authorize the Director of the Department of Social Services to sign an agreement with the California Department of Social Services to allow Monterey County Social Services employees access to THE WORK NUMBER service for the period April 1, 2016 through September 30, 2017.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
THE WORK NUMBER is a private resource used to verify employment of applicants and recipients of public assistance programs in accordance with California’s Work Verification Plan. Counties use the information obtained from THE WORK NUMBER to determine customer eligibility for public assistance benefits.
Monterey County Department of Social Services participated in a pilot program from October 1, 2014 through March 31, 2016 where it was granted access to The Work Number. The Department found the Work Number Service to be of great value in assisting staff with their casework.
The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) entered into an agreement with The Work Number Service to provide counties with online employment and wage verification services through September 30, 2017. This Agreement provides the Department of Social Services with continued access.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
Information Technology Department, the Auditor-Controller’s Office and the Purchasing Department have reviewed and approved this agreement. County Counsel has approved the agreement as to form.
FINANCING:
There is no cost to the County and approval of this action has no impact on the County General Fund.
