Report

RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:

a.                     Receive the Certified Statement of Votes Cast and declare final the results of the June 2, 2026, Statewide Direct Primary Election as set forth in the attached documents, and;

b.                     Declare “elected” the candidates to each office under the Board’s jurisdiction.

 

SUMMARY:

The Elections Department requests the Board of Supervisors receive the Statement of Votes Cast at the June 2, 2026, Statewide Direct Primary Election within the County of Monterey, as certified by the Registrar of Voters. In addition, the Elections Department requests that the Board of Supervisors declare “elected” the candidates to the respective offices for which the Board of Supervisors has jurisdiction.

 

DISCUSSION:

In accordance with Elections Code section 15372, the Registrar of Voters is submitting the certified Statement of Votes Cast to your Board. Pursuant to Elections Code section 15374, the Statement of Votes Cast shows:

 

                     the total number of ballots cast;

                     the number of votes cast at each precinct for each candidate and for and against each measure;

                     the total number of votes cast for each candidate and for and against each measure;

                     the total number of votes cast in each city, assembly district, congressional district, senatorial district, State Board of Equalization district, and supervisorial district located in whole or in part of the county, for each office voted on within the state.

 

The Elections Department will also file a certified Statement of Votes with the California Secretary of State who shall compile the statements of all 58 counties and certify the statewide results and each local jurisdiction with candidates and/or ballot measures on the ballot, Exhibit A - Statement of Votes Cast.

 

Pursuant to Elections Code sections 8140 and 15400, et seq., the Registrar of Voters recommends that the Board of Supervisors declare elected the candidates who receive a majority of votes for the respective county offices for which the Board of Supervisors has jurisdiction as detailed on the attached June 2, 2026, Final Official Report. The elected county officers will take office on January 7, 2027. Likewise, it is recommended the Board declare the results of each measure voted on, in which:

 

                     Measure A - The City of Soledad did not achieve the two-thirds voter requirement to pass;

                     Measure B - The City of Gonzales did not achieve the two-thirds voter requirement to pass;

                     Measure C - The City of Pacific Grove did not achieve the majority voter requirement to pass;

                     Measure D - The City of Monterey did not achieve the majority voter requirement to pass;

 

as indicated in the attached June 2, 2026, Final Official Report.

 

Copies of the June 2, 2026, Final Official Report and Statement of Votes Cast are on file with the Clerk of the Board and available online at www.CountyofMonterey.gov/Elections.

 

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT/COMMITTEE ACTIONS:

 The agencies listed in the attached document have requested that the Registrar of Voters render election services for the June 2, 2026, Statewide Direct Primary Election. County Counsel reviewed and approved the recommendation.

FINANCING:

California Elections Code Section 10002 mandates that all jurisdictions requesting election services from the County shall reimburse the County for the services performed. There will be no additional cost to the County General Fund associated with this recommendation.
