a. Accept the 2014-15 Annual Report from the Monterey County Children’s Council; and

b. Receive an oral presentation regarding current Children’s Council initiatives - the Early Childhood Development Initiative and the All Kids Our Kids partnership with local schools.

RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:

a. Accept the 2014-15 Annual Report from the Monterey County Children’s Council; and

b. Receive an oral presentation regarding current Children’s Council initiatives - the Early Childhood Development Initiative and the All Kids Our Kids partnership with local schools.

 

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

The Annual Report provides the community with an update on Children’s Council initiatives, goals and accomplishments from July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015. It also provides the community with data on selected indicators related to child and youth well being.

 

The oral presentation will include an update on Bright Beginnings - the Early Childhood Development Initiative. Bright Beginnings is a catalyst for the community to work together to ensure that young children, from the prenatal stage through third grade, have what they need to succeed in school and life. This initiative seeks to maximize existing and future resources to support all young children and their parents, families, and communities during this critical period of early childhood.  The presentation will also include an update on the work of All Kids Our Kids initiative, a partnership of the Children’s Council with local school districts.  This initiative strives to build stronger, more resilient children and youth by creating positive, caring and supportive schools and communities through positive youth development.

 

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

The Monterey County Children’s Council is made up of 28 members from county, city, school, and community-based organizations and includes elected officials, department heads/superintendents and community members.
