Report

RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors take the following action:

Adopt a resolution to:

a.                     Establish Unit SPD as a new bargaining unit for Staff Nurse II - Per Diem and Nurse Practitioner III - Per Diem Nursing classifications.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

On May 5, 2021, the California Nurses Association (CNA) submitted a petition to represent the Staff Nurse II - Per Diem and Nurse Practitioner III - Per Diem classifications, along with supporting documentation.

On June 8, 2021, pursuant to the County’s Employer-Employee Relations Resolution No. 10-041, the County notified CNA as the exclusive recognized employee organization for the classifications listed above, recommending that they be included in a new “Unit SPD”. CNA appealed this determination and requested the per diem nursing classifications be added to the existing Bargaining Unit S. On July 20, 2021, the Board of Supervisors considered CNA’s appeal and voted to uphold the County’s previous determination. Therefore, it is recommended that the Board of Supervisors adopt a resolution establishing a new bargaining unit designated as Unit SPD.
