RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Health, Housing and Human Services Committee of the Board of Supervisors:
Receive a presentation on updates regarding the current Opioid Epidemic and Community Impact
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The Monterey County Health Department, Behavioral Health Bureau and the Monterey County Prescribe Safe Initiative will provide a brief PowerPoint presentation regarding recent information and 6-month update (January-June 2022) related to the ongoing Opioid Epidemic and impact upon the communities of Monterey County including prevention/treatment strategies to address this growing public health crisis.
This work supports the Monterey County Health Department 2018-2022 Strategic Plan Goals: 1. Empower the community to improve health through programs, policies, and activities; and 2. Enhance community health and safety by emphasizing prevention. It also supports one of the ten essential public health services, specifically: 9. Evaluate effectiveness, accessibility, and quality of personal and population-based health services.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
Monterey County Health Department, Behavioral Health Bureau, Monterey County Prescribe Safe, Sun Street Centers, Community Human Services, Door to Hope, Valley Health Associates, Monterey County Sheriff Department, and other organizations throughout the County have contributed in efforts to prevent and treat opioid abuse/dependence among individuals and families within our community.
FINANCING:
Receiving this report will have no impact on the Health Department Behavioral Health Bureau’s FY 2021-22 Adopted Budget nor to the General Fund.
