Title

a. Authorize the Chief Executive Officer for Natividad Medical Center (NMC) or his designee to execute a Student Placement Agreement with Arcadia University for rotations of Arcadia University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy Program students at NMC, with an agreement term of January 15, 2024 through January 14, 2027.

b. Approve the NMC Chief Executive Officer’s recommendation to accept non-standard indemnification and insurance provisions within the agreement.

RECOMMENDATION:

 

It is recommended the Board of Supervisors:

 

a. Authorize the Chief Executive Officer for Natividad Medical Center (NMC) or his designee to execute a Student Placement Agreement with Arcadia University for rotations of Arcadia University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy Program students at NMC, with an agreement term of January 15, 2024 through January 14, 2027.

b. Approve the NMC Chief Executive Officer’s recommendation to accept non-standard indemnification and insurance provisions within the agreement.

 

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

 

NMC strives to offer the highest quality care and best outcomes to patients and their families. At

the same time, the organization promotes professional development and continuous skill acquisition

among staff for the betterment of the community. One way we achieve this at NMC is to support

clinical affiliation agreements with colleges and universities for specific clinical programs the suit

the needs of the organization and the community. NMC would like to establish an affiliation with Arcadia University for its Doctor of Physical Therapy Program.

This program can benefit NMC in its efforts for talent acquisition following completion of clinical

rotations to help fill vacant positions for Physical Therapists and other related professions.

 

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

 

 The Office of County Counsel has reviewed and approved this agreement as to legal form, and the Auditor-Controller has reviewed and approved as to payment provisions.

 

FINANCING:

 

There is no cost associated with this agreement.

As a teaching hospital, it is essential to support professional development and upward career mobility through partnership with colleges and universities from across the country. Supporting the clinical affiliation with Arcadia University may lead to a stronger workforce which strengthens economic development and growth opportunities within Monterey County. Arcadia University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy Program can yield qualified professional Physical Therapists (PT), thereby strengthening the pool of medical professionals in the area, and further enhancing healthcare opportunities for Monterey County residents.
