It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors:
Receive a Public Works Report Celebrating National Public Works Week 2012, RMA-Public Works.
SUMMARY/ DISCUSSION:
The RMA-Public Works’ staff administers projects and provides public services that enhance the quality of life and benefit the people of Monterey County. The RMA-Public Works is responsible for management, operation, and maintenance of public roads and bridges, storm drains, a water system, sanitation districts, and County Service Area urban services within the unincorporated portions of Monterey County. RMA-Public Works provides fleet services for County Departments and is responsible for the construction and maintenance of new and existing building facilities for government services of Monterey County.
National Public Works Week is an opportunity to recognize the importance of public services being provided for our community. The support and understanding of the public is important to the efficient operation of public works systems and programs such as water, sewer, streets and highways, and public buildings. The health, safety and comfort of the community greatly depend on these facilities and services as well as the quality and effectiveness of these facilities. The planning, design and construction of these facilities and services is vitally dependent upon the efforts and skills of public works officials.
The attached Public Works Report was prepared to provide additional information about the divisions of the public works and public services provided to the residents and County Departments.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
RMA-Public Works coordinates with various federal, state, and local agencies to accomplish public services.
FINANCING:
RMA-Pubic Works successfully obtains federal, state, and local grants for projects and where possible to fund public services.
