RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the Economic Opportunity Committee:

a. Receive and accept the resignation of Jonathan Brown as the Labor representative for the

    Economic Development Committee; and

b. Provide direction to staff to move forward with an open recruitment for a Labor

representative to the Economic Development Committee; and

c. Consider creating an Ad Hoc Committee to review the qualifications of all applicants.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

The primary purpose of the Economic Opportunity Committee is to advise the Board of Supervisors on appropriate economic development policies, programs and activities to ensure a Countywide perspective in support of a diversified economy; higher paying jobs and an expanded revenue base for local government services, while preserving and protecting the County's agricultural, tourism and education economic base in collaboration with cities.

On November 22, 2022, Jonathan Brown was appointed as the Labor Representative to the Economic Development Committee (EDC). The Economic Development staff recently received correspondence from Mr. Brown, notifying us of his decision to resign from the EDC due to competing professional obligations. Serving from November 2022 through May 2025, Mr. Brown made significant contributions, offering valuable insights and guidance on numerous economic development projects and initiatives.

Economic Development staff is requesting direction from the committee to move forward with opening a recruitment publicly in accordance with the committee bylaws for a period of 60 days. Once the application period is closed an Ad Hoc Committee will review qualifications of all applicants prior to EDC review and recommendation to the BOS.
