SUMMARY/DISCUSSION

The California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) has awarded the County of Monterey Health Department a CYBHI - Evidence-Based Practices and Community-Defined Evidence Practices - Round One Grant in the amount of $211,317 to assist in building institutional capacity to provide Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) to eligible patients and their families. The family-centered model serves young children and their caregivers, and it is as a treatment modality with robust evidence for effectively improving behavioral health outcomes for diverse populations.

The goal of the grant is to enhance and build the continuum of behavioral and mental health supports provided by the County of Monterey Health Department, Behavioral Health Bureau (BHB), with a specific focus on investing in evidence-based therapeutic models that meet the specific needs of the Monterey community. This will be done by engaging BHB clinicians in intensive Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) training, purchasing the necessary technology and equipment to implement this model, and offering ongoing coaching and training required by the treatment modality and to create ongoing capacity for the County of Monterey Health Department to provide PCIT.

This work supports the following County of Monterey Health Department’s 2018-2024 Strategic Plan Goal(s): 3. Ensure access to culturally and linguistically appropriate, customer-friendly, quality health services. It also supports one of the ten essential public health services, specifically 7.
