Title: a. RECOMMENDATION/SUMMARY:

b.                     Accept the grant award of $13,664 from the State Library of California, and

c.                     Accept non-standard indemnification provisions at the recommendation of the Director of MCFL, and

d.                     Approve and authorize the Director of the MCFL or his or her designee to execute to three (3) future amendments where the combined amendments do not exceed 10% ($1,366) of the original Agreement amount, do not significantly change the scope of services, and do not increase the total not to exceed amount over $15,030.    

 

DISCUSSION:

 

The staff of the Monterey County Free Libraries (“MCFL”) have successfully applied for a grant from the California State Library via their Local and Collaborative Grant Program for $13,664 in order to enhance materials and services for older adults with disabilities.  Grant activities will occur over the 2023-24 fiscal year, and include new materials and technology for lending and library use, programs and workshops on disaster preparedness, and further outreach to this community. This grant award will enable the Monterey County Free Libraries to continue making library materials and services available to all in our communities.

 

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

 

County Counsel has reviewed this item and approved as to form.  Risk Management has reviewed and does not recommend the approval based upon non-standard provisions. 

 

FINANCING:

 

The direct expenses will be funded by the grant award.  This grant was anticipated in the Department’s Budget, and staff time and grant management, along with incidental additional expenses, are also anticipated in the Library Department’s FY 2023-24 budget.

 

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS STRATEGIC INITIATIVES:

 

Provision of library services, programs, and technology that enables those with disabilities to fully utilize their public library’s resources is in the Monterey County Free Libraries Strategic Plan and supports the goals of the County of Monterey.
