Upon motion of Supervisor CalcaQno seconded by Supervisor Lindley and carried by those
members present, the Board of Supervisors of the County of Monterey hereby:
Approves and authorizes the Sheriff to submit an application to the Governor's Office of
Emergency Services for a $300,000 grant to fund the Monterey County Agricultural Crime Task
Force, with a Joint Powers Agreement between the Sheriff and the District Attorney for the
period of July 1, 2006 to June 30, 2007.

RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors approve and authorize the Sheriff to submit an
application to the Governor's Office of Emergency Services for a $300,000 grant to fund the
Monterey County Agricultural Crime Task Force, with a Joint Powers Agreement between the
Sheriff and the District Attorney for the period of July 1, 2006 to June 30, 2007.
SUNIIVIARY/DISCUSSION
The state's Fiscal Year FY) 2006-07 budget includes $300,000 specifically designated to Monterey
County for an Agricultural Crime Task Force, allocated through the State Office of Emergency
Services OES) as the pass-through agency for distribution of the funds. The funds will be used for
the Agricultural Crime Task Force, which started its activities in March 2006, to be administered by
the Sheriff under a Joint Powers Agreement JPA) with the District Attorney's Office. The task
force is an interactive team working together to develop crime prevention, problem solving, and
crime control techniques, to encourage timely reporting of crimes, and to evaluate the results of
these activities.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT
The District Attorney's Office has been notified and concurs with this recommendation.
FINANCING
There is no impact on the County General Fund. In anticipation of receipt of the grant, the related
revenue and expenditures have been included in the FY 2006-07 Recommended Budget. The
program becomes inoperative on July 1, 2010 and is repealed as of January 1, 2011, unless later
statute is enacted deleting or extending those dates.
